As work on the M1 upgrade continues at a furious pace, the Southern Link Upgrade is preparing for another in a series of concrete pours this coming Saturday night.
Southern Link Upgrade Project Director Tony Murphy said ten concrete ‘patches' will be poured to help strengthen the new road deck at Gardiners Creek Viaduct.
"It's quite a complicated bit of work given that the concrete has to ‘set' or dry which means we have to keep traffic vibration at a minimum", said Tony.
"That means we're going to close two lanes to traffic as you head in towards the city between Glenferrie Road and the Yarra River from 8pm on Saturday night through until 9am Sunday morning.
"If the concrete still needs a bit of time to cure we might keep a single lane closure in place until about lunchtime on Sunday.
"With Richmond lining up against the West Coast Eagles at Docklands on Saturday night, Melbourne Storm playing the Dragons at Olympic Park and the usual activity on in and around the city, there might be delays on that section of CityLink.
"We'll have lots of electronic signs up out on the road warning drivers of any delays so keep an eye out for those and allow a little extra time for your journey if you're heading to town," Tony said.
Tony said the concrete pours would continue on that section of road for the next six or seven weekends with stakeholders being kept up to date with the road works via works alerts, residents letters, emails and the media.
